jbl cone smell?

i have a pair of 2226h that emits phenol-like smell from the paper cone.

what substance is it? (I doubt it can be good for me) is it normal and will it ever completely go away?

the speakers were taken out of old theater system, btw. and the smell is, well... sweet vintage.

But they sound ok? also the smell is most strong on the peper not the dust cap

paper. Both coils read 5ohm

The smell is more likely from a thin film of dirt on the cones. It is not normal on JBL drivers.

I thought the smell was more from the surround.

The voicecoils can be burned and still work ok. If you take the cone out you can see small bubbles on the voice coil former.

But i had these drivers for months and theyve been smelling this way from the day one. Tho i only started ventilating it yesterday.

Im going to go with built up cig smoke from years of being in a theater
