LCY 130 Ribbon Sensitivity ?
Default LCY 130 Ribbon Sensitivity ?

I have a speaker on loan and have been trying to work out a speaker level crossover. The speaker's owner says he chose the LCY because it was rated at near the same 92 or 93dB sensitivity as the mid , but he used a digital crossover and bi or tri- amped so he never tested it, instead setting up the whole system and then using the digital XO's software to do test and level.

Measuring in my room though, it's clear the LCY is down below the mid somewhere between 10-15dB.

Looking for info here I found one post referring to Zaph Audio pages and there is a statement there that the LCY130 is low sensitivity. Has anybody here used it and know roughly what output they got?

Thanks very much !

The LCY -130 Sensitivity : 92dB / 2.83V / 1M, from specs.
Now, are you talking about a 3-way speaker?! What crossover layout/ frequencies do you have? It can change the perception. What mid do you have working with that crossover. A lot of details are missing for a full view of your speaker design.

It's a 3 way, but the result isn't subjective perception - it's tested - and it tests consistantly as approx 15dB below the mid driver's level. With a 2.2uf cap in series and a 1.8mH inductor in parallel it's not being attenuated by the XO enough to account for the drop. As a matter of fact if the driver is swept raw it gets lower output through the upper half of its bandwidth.
This is why I'm looking for people who have worked with the driver - to see if they have seen similar deviation from the published spec.

The mid is an Accuton, which is why I took it upon myself to build a crossover for a speaker I don't own. I love the driver.
