Cardioid midrange

Dear all

Will a cardioid midrange have a dipole/cardioid peak with similar irregularities in the frequence response above this point, or is this a dipole issue only?

A resistive leakage type is what I currently have in mind

You will have irregularities, but they will be easier to manage than the dipole peak of an U~Frame, etc...

What mid and or bandwidth are you looking to cover?

Its a work in progress but I am aiming for around 17-1800 to 5-300 hz. LP is governed by the dipole peak of the mid (SS 18wu) and HP will be decided based on SQ in the midrange. I do not want to use too much EQ on the midrange driver. Perhaps a nude driver with felt mats covering the rear out-put will give me peak at 17-1800, but a the same time gain more dB below 1000 Hz due to cardioide effect?

I think the trick with avoiding the dipole peak in cardioid is to keep the baffle as narrow as the driver size and have vents on the baffle side (no U-baffle).
