Default Troels Classic 3W...

Greeetings!!

So...is this design as good as it gets for that all day listening...non-fatiguing...classic rock meets jazz...all round speaker??

Something I can play my old 70's albums on along side my reissued MoFi??

Input is greatly appreciated!! I need a new project for when I go on holidays in July

Toodles!!

Hi Sideways. Hope your Bears do better next year. The fixture list is a stinker for ALL the NFC North teams.

Troels Gravesen's 3-way classic is a beaut of a speaker. It's got everything I like.
3-Way Classic

It's gonna rock any biggish room and go loud without effort. I say this without having heard it. 3 ways are just BETTER than two ways. And Troels knows what he is doing. A good 3 way always sound unexciting and unremarkable, but simply works better than a two way.

You forget you are listening to a speaker and enjoy the music. I've heard 4 good 3 ways (Chartwell PM400, Celestion Ditton 44, Gale GS401A and Wharfedale E70) over the years and loved all of them. The midrange, free of bass duties can perform without distortion due to excessive excursion.

Model the woofer to ensure it meets your listening preference, this is a good design but I'd go for a larger cabinet tuned lower with that woofer

Wow, someone else in (or near) S'toon on Diyaudio. Who knew?
And Steve, by fixture list, are you referring to the NFC North schedule? If so, it could be worse .... last year they had the 49ers & S'hawks. Ravens will be weaker this year, Dallas will, being blunt, suck, which leaves the Giants & Skins, and both could have good, or bad, years. Yes, it will be interesting to see what Trestman can do (and if their O line holds up), but also what the Lions can do. Anyway, sorry to digress away from the Classic discussion ....

K...so...looks like it'll cost somewhere around that $500.00-$600.00 mark to build these things...makes me wonder...advantage??

I mean...at that price there are some great 3 way speakers that can be had...Kef 104.2's...Vandersteen 2c's...

Seems to me I just read something like this in another thread...kinda wondering if there is something I'm missing??

And prairieboy...I'm in Saskatoon!!

top quality DIY is never cheap

500USD ?..is that expencive, really ?

No...LOL...I guess not in a sense...I just happened on that other thread and it got me thinking...not more than a month ago I bought some Kef 104.2's for a buddy...had them in my house for a week and loved them...price was $500.00!!

Now for this build I'm in that same price range...just found it interesting...I guess TOTL speakers 20 years ago are quite affordable now and it's making me think on how well this Classic 3W will stand up!!

This Visaton\Morel build I'm running now I love...I can't inagine a better sounding speaker to me for under a grand...and I know I've tried many before I stumbled upon this...

Would actually like to model a 3 way with the Visaton...an Accuton mid...and something else for a woofer...maybe the same SEAS but I think I'm outa my league in xover design :P
