Default Open Baffle question.

I will have 4 goldwood 1038 PA speakers showing up next week. I have decided to try open baffle with them. They have a Qts of .94 but a small xmax of 2.5. My question is If I put 2 per baffle would you do them side by side or on top of each other? I'm leaning toward top of each other but just wanted to ask others in case there is a valid argument to the question.

Default What's a girl to do?

Sorry about the title.... just surprised others (like 70!) haven't chimed in.

As is ALWAYS the case, all the other factors of your intended design will drive you to the answer.

I, usually vertically align the woofers because I know the HF section should have a distance from the floor roughly equal of that of a seated person. Something between 38" & 44". Personal target is 42" for the tweeter if we are dealing with a tweeter, or 40" if we are dealing with a mid tweeter.

So you have 30" or so of baffle to spend (in the vertical) so might as well use it!

There are those who, and it is a good point, would like to keep the dual woofers an equal distance from the floor so both load equally. But I have found that if you are out of the woofers by 700 Hz or lower it doesn't make all that much difference loading wise.

So, I vote for a vertical alignment with a baffle width as wide as you can stand up to about 26".

Hope to hear some other opinions!

Best
