Hi Friends,
I sit here in front of my hotel in Isaan and hear Mark Morrison's "Crazy," I like bass guitar since I was young! When I go back to Germany, I would like to remove my 2-way speakers and build a 3-way dipole. Speakers are Electro-Voice EVM15L and Renkus Heinz SSD 1801 (1" tweeter) Request proposals from the dimensions of the H-frame for the EV. Proposals for a midrange: all vocal range I would appreciate help very Wilm |

you're obviously starting with what you've got at hand. Not the best choice for a dipole, but it will give you a first impression nevertheless. The EV will reach it's meager linear excursion limit with just 10 watt applied. A cubic H frame with 44 cm outside dimensions would be perfect. Bass starts to roll off at 60 Hz (-6 dB/40 Hz). The H frame will support the EV easily up to 200 Hz. A 6" or 8" midrange driver would be a good choice imho. Rudolf

Hi Rudolf,
I thank you for your answer, I hang with a lot of memories of this EV speakers, they are already recont. 30 years ago, when I played bass guitar, they were the number 1. I will go active and still searching the right midrange to cover the vocal range! This is my horn: ftp://ftp.renkus-heinz.com/Legacy_Products/Datasheets_and_Drawings/Aluminum_Horns/CBH1000_data.pdf I can build a small open baffle with this 12" horn. May I ask you Rudolf if you could spend 300,- Euro for these two midrange driver, what would be your decision? regards Wilm |

Hi Wilm,
going active means what exactly? Will you be able to choose the crossover frequency from woofer to midrange at will - even 200 or 250 Hz? Any meager SET amplifier in the way ? Separate amps for midrange and tweeter?I would not make the midrange baffle wider than 20 cm. I know that the horn is 30 cm wide, but a 2 kHz crossover with a 20 cm wide baffle should merge the dispersion patterns and the power responses best. This leads to a 6-8" midrange driver. Rudolf

Hello Rudolf,
maybe this: Behringer DCX2496 Ultra Drive Pro and 3 fanless power amplifiers. I want to get out of the existing components and two new midrange drivers the best! "I would not make the midrange baffle wider than 20 cm." Rudolf understood, but the results with a 30 cm (12 ") horn is not very nice. How about if I mold a metal frame for the horn and hang up the midrange? regards Wilm |

Hello Rudolf,
thank you very much for your answers! I have not much experience with "HiFi", I know you are an expert and I will follow your recommendation. What would you choose acoustically: - Open baffle 20 cm - No baffle with 18W/8434G00 I've even looked at the website of miniDSP but honestly did not understand what you mean! Find no 3-way stereo?? AVR is a good idea but new to me: What do you think of the Marantz SR7001? regards Wilm |
