Default Help with locating plans for a two-way with Fostex

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has some plans for some mains using a reflex port that would sound great with one of the Fostex full range drivers (168, 206) and a tweeter.

I would love it to look like Doc's.

Thank you. I do not want to create a rectangular box, put in the drivers and then hope for the best.

I have ordered The Loudspeaker cookbook and hope they I can find equations for port length, and cross-sectional area for a slotted port.

I saw this in a search of the forums

Would slot porting to the front change the sound considerably?

And I am thinking of the most simple design I can - With the full range driver and a tweeter using only 1 single capacitor on the tweeter.

I have just built some transmission line speakers using the Fostex 206fe driver. THe plans were from Martin King's Quarter wave website site. Easy to build and I am happy with the results.

I am at the early stages of running these speakers in, but can tell you that you will NOT need a tweeter with these drivers. They have a frequency response that extends to approximately 20K at a high efficiency level. I have had to peel back the trebble with Martin's correction filter as I have found them a little bright.

If anything, I might even increase the resistor to peel them back further. But I have quite happy with the sound for the cost of the driver. Good imaging and a well rounded presentation. Not overly strong in the bass though so if you prefer rock music, I would consider alternative drivers.

Looking at the specs for other Fostex (167,207,208 etc) their frequency drops from about 12 KHz so a tweeter may be required for these drivers.

This may be the sign I was looking for. I spent all day looking at every TQWP site I could find and I am very excited.

You do not think that your freq response will go down a little bit when you finish breaking in your drivers?

I am looking at the Fostex 207 E (only difference is slight change in one spec and it is shielded).

This accomplishes everything that I was looking for. A front slot port, floor standing (so no need to make stands), and simplicity in design and crossover.

I really like the looks of these but I am going to wait to build my boxes till I get my Sound Cookbook in the mail and have a chance to really study the enclosure to determine optimal size for that driver and this type of cabinet.

I like the base of these here - or I will do the suspended way.

Just looking at the base here and not the rest of the speaker design. Would paint the bottom plate and stand-offs piano black with a cherry veneer for main body.

I haven't downloaded mathcad yet but it is great that Martin King has these great resources available - I will be using that to help with cabinet size and shape. I prefer a 1.5 depth to baffle ratio over the more square look.

Thank you again.
