Smile Mark Start

Hi,

Has anyone lurking here ever built the Blue Planet Acoustic Mark Start Kit?

If so, how did it perform and how difficult was it to build the kit?

Thank you.

Colin (aka Toppsy) built the same from scratch with good results. The 'Dales' 2-way speakers

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the reference.

But isn't the Mark Start kit are much bigger speaker? Or is it just taller but the same internal volume?

Thanks again.

I don't know. The parts Colin used are the same. If it were me with those parts i'd put them in Scott Lindgren's tall ML-TL with the slot vent.

Same drivers & XO, different enclosure I did for him (in this case a standmount vented box).

The EL166 doesn't benefit IMO from a ML conical horn as in the Blue Planet design; you'll get equal or superior results with a simpler MLTL.

The really unique thing about the MarkStart kit is that it is the only to get EL166/#6 woofer which is a really really good value. If they hadn't reserved their EL166 for this kit, Colin would have bought them all

Dave and Scott,

I had a good look at your other designs on your website and they look really interesting, particularly the Dual Woofer ML-TL for the EL166.

What frequency is the bass reflex tube tuned for (or, how low does she go)?

BTW, your other designs sometimes offer a choice between a port tube or slots. What are the pros and cons of each and can this slot design (Jenzen-Illuminator) be substituted for any of the aforementioned?

Sorry for question blitz.

EL166 MTM ML-TL

There are comments in one of the VI diyFEST threads, where they were debuted.

They really are quite stunning, especially for the investment.

Dave,

I'm fairly new to this forum; is there any chance you could provide a direct link to the VI diyFEST thread (whatever that is)?

Thanks.
