Default ff165wk or ff225wk

Which of these fostex drivers would be the better choice for a bass zilla type clone.

I have peerless sls12 bass drivers and the aurum cantus g2si tweeters and have come across these two fostex drivers on sale locally and wonder if they might be worth a try.

Thanks.
Nigel.

The FF225WK really needs help above 8kHz or so, I own that one. It has a nice midrange though. I suspect the FF165WK might also need some help above 10-12kHz. I'd probably pick the 225 since you have a competent tweeter to use, because I like the sound of a large midrange. Any way for you to audition before you buy?

The 225 is a size equivalent since the Basszilla runs 8in widebanders, with an additional supertweeter in the case of the 208ESigma, without when Lowthers are employed. Since you've got the ribbons already, I'd go with the 225 to maximise dynamic range & bring the ribbons in from about 4KHz, LR2.

Thanks guys that supports my thoughts about going with the 225. The drivers are onsale at about half rrp so it makes it alow risk experiment and gives me a start prior to going with the full and much costlier baszilla drivers.

I am asuming wks will be ok open baffle if not they can in a box on top of the h baffles with aurum cantus in an open baffle themselves.

Thanks that supports my suspicions. They are on sale for half rrp so was hopeful they could fit into this type of design. Has anyone used the 225s in ob. What lower cutoff should i be looking at, olsher rolls in the sigma 208s in the low 100s. Bearing in mind i have a h baffle with sls12 peerless I dont think i will be able get much above 70 or 80 hz without hitting box resonance type problems.
