Dear all,
I was interested in making a no compromise full range monitor "cost and size no object". I have seen the Prestige kits from Wilmslow Audio and have heard very agreeable sounds from the ATC 150 and the PMC speakers that utilise Volt's similar midrange. As a beginner is this a good way to go with "no compromise" drive units. I would prefer to buy wisely and get good units at the outset rather than buy several "kits" - spending my time by perfecting the raw materials that I have.
Your advice is gratefully appreciated.
I was intending only to buy the drive units and work out the enclosure requirements and build the crossovers/modify as necessary.

Hi,

No such thing as "no compromise" design, it doesn't exist.

PMC's use a Vifa mid far removed from the ATC mid.

Don't even think about designing you own half-baked
crossovers for expensive drivers, very bad mistake.

The Prestige Avalon-u-like I guess is fair enough
if you 've got £2K to burn, and probably another
£1k on the cabinets, if the plans are good.

They might not be, "no compromise" cabinets are
difficult for the DIYer, if not impossible, research
its not an option, so you atre just guessing.

Me I'd buy a pair of used B&W 802 Series 3's as one
of my ultimate speakers - couldn't hope to build the
cabinets or buy similar driver for the used price.

rgds, sreten.
