Suggestions for PA drivers to home floorstanders

Hi!

My friend had heard the Infinity Kappa 9 speakers, and liked them so much, he asked me to do similar speakers to him. I was like, yeah, no problem. But when I saw the specifications of these Infinitys, I start worrying a bit.

@29Hz SPL should be 99dB @1W,1m. I think I never find these drivers, which can do that. Unless I go for 18'' multiple drivers.
The next problem would be max SPL. For Infinity's it should be around 127db?
Yeah, these speakers look really fantastical...

My goals would be a little more humble:
have F3 around 35Hz
have max SPL 115dB to 120dB
efficienty at least 95dB @1W,1m
nice sounding (the most important part)

I think, it's reasonable to go for two amps. Active filtering for bass, and lower cut for high's.

The bucket for drivers, crossovers and amps is 1500€. Yes, it isn't much, but I have to do the best for it. Crossovers would be homemade and amps maybe from after market.

So any suggestions are welcome!



Some ideas from my own: Two Beyma 6MI90 drivers to mid's and just maybe Fountek NeoPro5i B for highs. That should give 300Hz to 20000Hz 98dB @1W,1m, and hopefully max SPL 115dB. Bass from COLOSSUS PRIME 15XS ? Would that do?

And I'm really sorry for my spelling. I hope that the most of it is understandable.

If you look at the specs for the Kappa 8, you will find that the specified sensitivity are 89db/1w. my conclution are therefore that the 102db/1w spec on the Kappa 9 are a misprint, 92db/1w are a far more belivable number.
(I write belivable because i think its virtually impossible to get 29hz/-3db out of a 99db/1w sensitive woofer in a regular sealed or ported enclosure)

I guess this will make it far easyer to find 12" drivers for a Kappa 9 inspired speaker

Might look at the drivers used by Gedlee. Actually, might look at his speakers.

The process of designing a speaker is a long one. Much more for a 3-Way or a 4-Way. Having a script like the crossover layout diagram only turns things more... impossible. What do I learn from your post, that maybe you and your friend like 4-Ways, maybe a tweeter like the Fountek ribbons, Expolinear NDRL 81 or Neo 3 and others. Also you seem to have an interest for the ambiance tweeter (in the back). So unless you have a complete design in hands, you will have lots of work in front of you to achieve the same others did along the years. Not impossible, but not at your level comparing with someone with years of experience and "factory" measuring equipment. (The crossover sheet is just that and works for that speaker/drivers only).

Have a nice DIY, and the only way to have F3 around 35Hz (or other) like you say is choosing the right woofer/s (T/S parameters and a relation to size/volume of the box).
