The top end response of the Tangband W5-704 looks very smooth and gradual, with no obvious break-up, so I wondered if it would work without a crossover ? (I'm assuming that an associated tweeter would have a suitable highpass filter cutting in at around 4 or 5kHz).

Or is the apparent good response of the W5-704 just an artefact of over enthustiastic smoothing on the part of Tangband !?

Hi,

I won't work without a x/o. You need to do BSC for a two way,
a big inductor and then you might as well properly match to
the tweeter with possibly additional R and C.

rgds, sreten.

Might get way with no x/o in say speciality corner loading,
or implementing BSC at passive line level + high tweeter.
