I have a TL tower that I don't have room for anymore so I'm building a new cabinet with a folded line.
What I'm not sure about is how to compensate the length for the fold since one wall becomes significantly longer then the other. Its a 10:1 taper over 38 inches so it seems to me the fold will be more of any issue since the long side of the folded area will be more than a quarter of the over all line length. How tolerant of deviations from the calculated length are TLs anyway? If I have to I will use a curve but that will make construction far more time consuming so I'd prefer to keep it simple. Well, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong...
I believe you are supposed to measure it right through the middle of the line. It being a middle measurement, the short inside of the fold will compensate for the longer outside of the fold.

We've had some rather inconclusive discussion about this in the past. Some visualise it as a horn, where you have a coherent wavefront that needs to turn a corner. Because of the length of the waves of interest (long), I see it as two adjacent pipes, one of which loads the other.
At any rate, given the aspect ratio of your pipe, you're right - folding it will be problematic. Using the geometry display of Leonard Audio's program, it actually looks like most of the taper may end up in the fold. (I'm just guessing at your start and end areas, though.) TLs are quite conscious of how long they are, but they are fairly forgiving of awkward bulges. They don't get too far off, even if there's a straight section in the middle of the taper, as long as the length remains the same. And yes, measure down the middle for a reasonable approximation. |

with TL I dont think it matters at all
though, a sharp bend might act different personally, if 2 lines with one fold, I would simply use the entire length x 2, top to bottom, and not think more about it I dont think you can 'predict' its behaviour 100% anyway |
