I'm technical but no expertise with speakers.
The drive unit on one of my KEf Q35's's died. I don't necessarily want to replace the specific unit as the set was @ 14 years old now and I could buy better ones today. However, could I possibly replace the drive units of both with something better? They're decent cabinets. Naturally I am unaware if drive units are interchangeable in cabinets

Kef will probably sell you a replacement driver.
The cabinets are not worth putting a different coaxial unit in (plus a different crossover). Anything better than the existing would probably be £150 each or more. Your cheapest solution would be to buy parts or whole lodspeakers off ebay. The Q35 are not expensive these days. Good luck.
