Default Cleaning surround glue

I'm rescuing a pair of Advent woofers that were badly refoamed. There is excess glue left on the cone edges that I'd like to remove but don't know what they used, it's clear and hard/rigid. And stuck pretty well, can't just scrape it off.

I tried denatured alcohol with minimal success. What else should I try? The cones are paper.

Thanks

The glue can probably be removed by acetone. Common chemicals that contain acetone are paint thinner, and nail polish remover. I would wear gloves and probably try to avoid getting it on the foam or anything with paint on it.

Thanks. I do have actual pure acetone and I'm familiar with working with it. It's a powerful solvent and I'm not sure what it might do to the paper cone. I should try it first on a junk cone but I don't have one at the moment. Has anyone used acetone on a paper cone?

If there is lamination on the paper cone it will probably strip it. I would use a piece of paper and carefully check to see if it dissolves the glue.
