Angry LFE + sub crossover

I am using yamaha av amplifier with my homemade HT loudspeaker set up..Everything is running fine exepct I have a doubt regarding crossing over the Subwoofer. I have used a plateamp for the SW..but there is no direct LFE input on it..the LFE signal is controlled by the crossover..that there is no direct path of the LFE signal to produce the actual signal..since all my front speakers are large and are configured as large on the av amp..i adjust the crossover knob to the lowest on the plate amp... So what i am losing here..are lfe freq and sub amp freq summed up to present a different frequency altogether?..pls educate me on this
