I believe these are made to be mids in a 3-way, at least that's how I would use them. If you want a 2-way look at any of the SS 15W drivers instead.

As above but for a two way I would be looking to use the 18W. Just playing with some 12MU’s myself now using an active crossover, IMO the 12’s would be a bit thin below 1kHz.

I thoght there was some equivalent to ekkels with the Seas w12oo3.
Thanks for the help. I allready have SS 18w in a 2 way, I wanted something compact, very compact. Cheers |

Ok well if you want compact size them that means compromising on the bottom end... but consider the cost of the Revelator in question I would be more inclined to use the 4ohm Illuminator.

Thanks silent screamer, I can get the revelators very easy, thats why I consider these. Still is just if there is such design. I don't have any skills for design... I can play arround with kit o rproject, but not more.

A two way is probably one of the less complicated ways to go, what sort of tweeter did you have in mind? That would make a big difference as to where you should crossover and what mid to use.

If I was wanting to put together a very small two way that would provide max music for min size, it would probably look at a SS 2904 or 3004 tweeter with the 12MU4731 to have both tweeter and mid 4ohm for passive integration.
I would put them in a sealed box as small as the speakers would allow (~1 litre ideal but would be closer to 2) and use heavy stuffing. pop yourself a little sub somewhere not visible and you have the makings a fairly decent compact sound. |

Just looking at the 12MU sealed driver specs...
What you need to bare in mind is that the driver has a diameter of 120mm so the baffle face needs to be at the very least 120mm wide by 120mm high and as you probably know 100mm x 100mm x 100mm is a litre, so all efforts need to be done to keep the size down to a min. Not factoring in inside and out figures dimensions there, but you get the point. It is hard to get these small drivers in a sealed enclosure that works well. I have knocked together a couple of variations you might want to consider. I was playing with making an sealed enclosure for two 12MUs and just modified it. If you wanted ultra small you could put the tweeter on the end and have the mid facing up but I wouldn't go that way. |
