Need help on speaker design, and component selection

I just finished making my first amp, a leach amp, and I will post pictures in a few days. I found a really sweet chassis for the leach amp, it is the chassis from this amp:

(without the window) It is the perfect size for the leach amp, and the heatsinks are pre-drilled. I spoke with the owner of smart devices, and he allowed me to purchase the case for that amplifier for $208 with all connectors, and power switch. The chassis is made of a base, two heat sink sides, and a stainless steel top. I will post pictures within a week, and detailed information if anyone else would like to order this case. They also supply high quality toroid transformers for this design. It sure is helpful to go to Georgia Tech and be able to stop by Prof. Leach's office for suggestion and testing

Well.. to the point:

I have decided to make some new speakers. I am looking to make some floor standing speakers that are 10" - 11" wide with one tweeter, one mid and one or two 8" woofers.

Has anyone in the forum made a similar designed speaker? I am looking for component suggestions. I am considering vifa components, since I can purchase them locally, rather easily.

What kind of tweeter would be good for a design with a vifa woofer and mid?

I have spoken to prof. leach, and I can get help designing a box with the proper parameters, once I find components.

As for price range, I would not mind spending $500-600 on the whole thing with the wood cabinets. I was considering using mdf, and covering it with laminent when I am done.

Any help would be appreciated, as I am new at this.

I am considering using the SST Eros design from http://speakerbuilder.net

Has anyone else made these speakers? It seems like a good project. I haven't really seen anything similar to this design.

The vifa mids and the scan speak tweeter seem pretty good.

Does anyone here have an opinion on these as a first speaker project?

if you make the eros, let us know(or if anybody else has). i had actually thought about a similar design with the same woofers, but a hiquphon tweeter when i stumbled on his design.

problem is, i can't quite fit these into my room as designed. i'm still very curious to know how they sound, with either the scan speak or hiquphon driver.

This is a Hafler DH200 chassis -- i have a pair down in "the lab" awaiting conversion to mono.

The Vifa P13s make excellent mid-ranges. There are any number of really decent dome tweeters out there. A friend has some modified Vifas that are awesome -- i'd have to email him to find out which -- he uses them with the P13WH-00 using a simple 1st order XO with very good results (the P13 has a very smooth roll-off at the top so you can get away with just letting it run.

XO is always the biggest issue. An XO between the 8s (go ahead use 2 -- i have twin Peerless 8s on my system and they work very well) and the mid at the baffle step of your box would be a good consideration. You might want to make your box just a bit wider than you suggest to make this transition at a slighly lower frequency.

They were just added to parts express a while ago and is not in the catalog. For the 6.5" one, it says that it is the largest in the series. The 8" has decent response. I am thinking about using one or two of these in a speaker with a mid and tweeter
