Grainy speaker finish

I don't know if anyone ever posted this, I couldn't find it anyway.

I've found a way to get a grainy speaker finish.

This is what you do:

You make some speaker cabinets out of MDF.
First you sand them so everything is smooth.
Then you paint one side with varnish. Doesn't have to be expensive stuff, doesn't matter.
Then you throw some white sand on them, while the varnish is still wet. The sand sticks to the varnish ofcourse.
Then you tilt them a little to let the excess sand fall of. Then let it dry.

Make sure the sand is completely dry before you throw it onto the farnish! You can dry it fast in a microwave oven.

You do this for all sides of the speaker.

Afterwards you get a nice grainy surface. I painted this with matt black paint. Looks rather nice :)

And it's really cheap!
