Hello all:
Actually i have a pair of two-way DIY floorstanding speakers, based on a proac response 2,5 with modified crossover. The drivers i am using are ss 9500tweeter and 18w/8535 carbon-paper midwoofer. I would like to convert them in a 3-way design, since i think i could improve the midband. The midrange driver i will use is a 13M/8640-00 (or 13M/8636-00)... the problem is that i don't have any idea about crossover design, and i am not able to find any on the net with the same drivers. Please if you know where i can find any 3-way filter design usable with that ss (or similar ss drivers) i'll heratly thank you Thanks for your time, and sorry... my english skill sucks Xmi |

I don't think it is needed to add a third driver, optimising the existing cross-over will give the best results.
A true 3way cross-over is very hard to get right and not needed because your drivers do work in the requested frequency range. In order to get a good cross-over in your situation you have to measure the actual acoustical and impedance response of the drivers in your cabinet. And with this info you can create a cross-over. Substituting a filter out of other designs isn't possible without compromising the soundquality. And ScanSpeak drivers are expensive enough to make some labor for. |
