Driver/Speaker Identification (SD Acoustics)

Hopefully someone can help I.D these mid/bass drivers or even the speakers !

They are branded "SD Acoustics" but show no sign of a model name or number. I'm guessing they are from the (early?) 80s as the tweeters are Audax HD100d25. I cant find anything similiar to the mid/bass drivers & they arent labelled at all.

They are paper cones with rubber surrounds & the dustcaps look more like phase plugs... They are 5.25" with a small to medium size magnet.

If you need more pics/info just say....Any information very welcome !

Owned a few pairs of sd's but never those . I think they are 1980s version of sd3.

I had some sd2 s with a similar but larger bass unit - they were audax too. Tweeter looks similar too.
If they work dont worry about it :-)
Great speakers - never heard a bad sd
Actually looking more closely those drive units are the same as in my sd2 I used to own . Big soft done tweeter (1 inch?).
Pretty sure they are sd3 now . Sd tended to use only 3 or 4 model names but the 90s variant of the sd3 is a different beast. They evolved the speakers but kept Model numbers the same.
There's very little info on the web as they went bust before the Internet really took off.
They are probably about 90db sensitivity 6-8r load. Simple crossover.
Google steen doessing ie mr s d . You will mostly find people looking for info but there is a bit. I know a bit about a few models if u need any more info.

Thanks for the info :)

Yes they both work & sound fantastic... I recently picked them up for 30 & was instantly stunned with the quality. Shame Steen's no longer in the hifi game as he had some very good ideas & the speakers "voicing" is spot on.

I've had 4 pairs. Currently got a pair of sd5r - huge floorstanders in gravity cast cabinets.
Really fast open sound - hallmark of his speakers .
They dont come up for sale often , but when they do they are usually cheap as not many people have heard of them .
30 quid - what a steal. You would have to spend a few hundred quid for something as good new .
:-) happy listening
