Hi
I want to know if someone know a formula to calculate the excursion of a tweeter (or a woofer or whatever). CONTEXT: It have been mentionned many time that it is a good idea to cross the tweeter low to have good dispersion and etc... But, it is not true that you can cross a tweeter to 2000 hz with a first order electrical filter because the linear excursionn capability may be exceeded at high level (or even moderate). This causes distorsion and "harshness". The problem is not that power handling is exceeded but X max. So to me, for hi-fi application, it is very stupid to make a tweeter with 200 watts ( or more, whatever) of power handling with only 0.25mm of Xmax. So the parameters that are important for this formula are: - Sd, effective surface of the driver - SPL, because high SPL means high excursion - Frequency, the lower the frequency, the higher the excursion. I think that is just it. Did I forgot anything? I have worked with one formula that didn't worked according to my experience. So what do you use? F |

Hi,
maybe you can use this xls-file? You can find it at: http://www.linkwitzlab.com/publications.htm Goto Presentations --> 4 - Excursion-limited SPL Nomographs. --> spl_max1.xls Grtz, Joris |
