I'm a newbie on this site, and I'm trying to build my first passive crossover.
I've chosen to put together a high-pass filter for a 4 ohm speaker at 3000Hz/18dB.
According to several sources, I need to acquire a .16mH Inductor, an 8.8uF cap, and a 27uF cap.
My problem is I'm having trouble finding parts of exactly the values I need. I've found a couple of .15mH Inductors (the Jantzen looks nice). I've looked at several 8.2uF caps, and even a 9.1uF, but no 8.8uF. I have found a 27uF cap.
My questions are:
1. Am I correct in assuming I'd better get EXACTLY the values described?
2. What is a good material for a mid-priced capacitor?
3. Where can I FIND this stuff?
Thank you for the assistance.

'4 ohm' is a 'nominal' impedance; first you need to know the ACTUAL impedance of the driver you're using, you should be able to find an impedance plot on the manufacturer's site
Hi,
The only several sources that will agree what you need for 4 ohms are all
wrong. They will be more right with a zobel added to the bass/ mid, but
3rd electrical doesn't tell you what the resultant acoustic response is.
It depends on the application how serious a problem this is.
rgds, sreten.

I'm in Ventura County, SoCal. Of course, I have a computer that can order on-line from anywhere...

the names 'Parts Express' & 'Madisound' come to mind, someone more local to you should be able to point you in the right direction.
I assume you're adding a HF driver to a Bass Rig? Have you decide which driver yet?
