Help with first Boxsim project

Hello! I've been designing my first speaker with Boxsim. I've read some articles about enclosure and crossover design, but to a large degree I've been winging it. I just don't know about the more technical aspects of speaker design.

I've chosen the drivers and designed the crossover to offer as linear and as low frequency response as possible in my cabinet. I'm using three Visaton drivers: W 250 S 4 ohm, SC 10 N 8ohm and DTW 72 8 ohm. The cabinet is from an old desk, so it's shape is set. I'm hoping that won't do anything too horrible to the sound, and that Boxsim is clever enough to show possible colorations of the sound. The whole point of the project is to turn these cabinets, which look nice but are too cumbersome for their original use, into 3-way speakers.

So, if you could offer a few comments about the project file, I'd be very grateful. I'm sure the crossover could be causing some problems I just don't see.

Furniture is not rigid enough. Build boxes that fit inside the furniture. Unless it is a stealth sub, I really can't recommend it anyway. As you build more speakers, you will learn all about issues with diffraction and driver placement. There are reasons speakers look like the do.

The sound is 90% the crossover design. Don't expect boxsim to answer the questions. Even SoundEasy won't. Any sim, no matter how complex, gets you to a starting point quicker. That is all.

brkl, I really wonder where you are going on this. A Visaton W 250S 10" woofer with an inductance of 1.5mH is saying crossover at about 1kHz to me and reflex bass loading. Maybe 3 way with a genuine midrange driver.

Why are you then adding a standard albeit decent tweeter which needs a crossover of 3 kHz and on top of that, a weird cheap polyamide supertweeter? This is really a pretty hopeless idea. Whatever are you thinking of?

I also wonder what made you go for the awkward 4 ohm version of that woofer. Do explain. Not that I want to give you a hard time here, but just that you seem to be making some fairly random design choices.

FWIW, it may make more sense to include a photo of your current cabinet, and then we can suggest where to go on this.
