I did a test to see if I could hear any difference with or w/out Vershay 0.01 bypass caps. I wanted a fair test , so I used the same speaker and XOver and used relays to add or delete the 0.01 caps. This way I could AB switch the caps in / out and eliminate most of the extraineus variables. We ( an EE and long time HiFi nut, a Musican and I) listened to varous CDs an could NOT hear a difference.
In retrospect the XO we used had all new to one year old caps from PE.
Some were 1% Daytons, others Solons. Most were actually made up two caps to get the desired value. Eg 7.27=6.8+0.47. So is the smaller 0.47 cap acting as a bypass? Or are Daytons and Solons so good they dont need bypassing?

Opinions about THAT subject will probably end up covering about 10 to 20 pages of posts on here before it finally fizzles out.
MY opinion is that they aren't needed as long as the capacitor being used meets its specifications as to capacitance, has low enough ESR and is rated at a high enough voltage. Some like electrolytics, others prefer film caps (mylar/polypropelyne) of moderately more price while others only use the very pricey boutique caps.
Being as how film caps are not that pricey and very stable over time and temperature I use those.
If you do feel better using a bypass cap, then by all means do so, making sure the combined caps meet your design goals. It won't hurt anything if you do.

My guess is you can do it. Post your results if testing.

I recently built a pair of Joe Rasmussens Elsinore's and used Solen SCR caps for the HF filter series pass element. I listened to them for about 5 months then changed to Jantzen Superior Z caps. The difference was remarkable. Much greater detail and subtlety. I didn't think the difference would be very great or even audible at all but I was somewhat gob smacked. I have always been very sceptical of bold claims made by esoteric manufacturers but in this instance they were right on the money. Well worth the expense. (About $12 Aus ea)
