I got a spool of this stuff to start wiring up my new room, I couldn't be happier with it. 250ft for $75 is hard to beat.

12 AWG OFC Speaker Wire 250 ft. 109-065

You probably don't need that much though.

Oh, UK, scratch that, shipping would probably be ridiculous.

Hi,

The cheapest stuff Richer Sounds does will be fine :
Speaker Cables | Speaker Accessories | Richer Sounds

Available per metre. Tinning both ends with solder is a good idea.

rgds, sreten.

"Tinning both ends", is that just literally applying a little solder to either ends of the cable?

Hi, Usually quite a bit of solder, tin all the exposed copper, rgds, sreten.

It prevents whisker shorts and prevents almost completely corrosion issues.
When you strip the ends and twist them for soldering try not to get finger
grease on them, use a tissue, solder them immediately, and discard say
the first 1cm of any cable that is not freshly cut, the end has oxidised.

You'll also find tinning wires and tags greatly eases quality drive unit soldering.

Can I just use any old solder flux then?

What do you mean by "tags"?

Thanks

Tags are the terminals on drivers and input cups or the terminals on "tag strips" people often use building crossovers. It's basically any small piece of metal that's designed to have a wire soldered to it.

As for flux, electronics solder will almost certainly be rosin core, meaning you shouldn't have to add any additional flux at all.

I cant beat £40, but i just got 2 mission cp-134 for 17Eu each, and cp-168 for 19 Euro each, and 4 of the Visaton FRS5X for ~9 Euro each. Two sets of cheapish 2 ways for £107, so ~$54 minus crossover though

Also can vouch for that speaker cable, ive got a small amount here, and about 10ft of the old 79 strand version Maplin did years ago lol

Hi,

What are you making the cabinets out of ? FWIW for a cheap
build I'd simply apply a wax finish. Cheap, simple and painless.

Tougher polyurethane.
