Interesting experiment.

For the coloration thing from comb-filtering, when the "reflections" are decorrelated (phase-distorted) from the original signal, the perceived coloration almost completely goes away while the measured comb filtering doesn't (just changes shapes), which I really find puzzling.

See "The Decorrelation of Audio Signals and Its Impact on Spatial Imagery" by Gary S. Kendall.

This also seems to be the reason why these 3D "reflection phase grating" QRD wall diffusors work so well, much better than simple convex diffusors.
