Default Single channel measurements for xover design ?

Please educate me –
Single channel measurements do not have a “reference” signal looped back from the output. An example of this would be using a mono mic input.

Question is –Are such single channel measurements still suitable for crossover design ? Please explain your answer - Why ?
You can assume the output/input amplifiers and mic all have flat amplitude response, or atleast have been compensated for in some way (calibration files).

The reason for dual channel measurements is that you can subtract the input from the output and not worry about what your stimulus was. If it wasn't flat the error will cancel out. In reality if you stimulus is flat then single channel is fine, the measurement accurately reflects the transfer function. Finally, even of your stimulus isn't flat, you can measure it with a single channel type, save the measurement and subtract/divide it out later, to cancel the errors.

any implications in terms of phase ? that's what I was trying to allude to by saying 'for crossover design'.

No, a single channel system is just as good at measuring phase.
