Default Recommended 8incher for 2-way?

Looking for smooth response to x-over to HF unit in 2-4khz range. Ideally atleast 3khz in order to stay out of midrange. High sensitivity would be a plus also but not critical. No kevlar or metal cones as I don't want to worry about upperband resonances.

I'm mainly wanting to use an 8, or 2 in an MTM ,for high output without undue stress and solid bass into the 30's. Also I haven't decided on a HF unit yet. Waiting until I decide on the midwoofs to better match the two as far as the tweeters usable ,clean, lower limits and the midwoofer/s usable upper limits.

Probably going to be active and bi-amped also.

Thoughts?Suggestions? I know! 8inch drivers are not known for their uncoloured midrange, but I have faith!

Default Vifa MG22 or P21

Scanspeaks 21W8554 is the best, but you don't like kelvar.

Where are you planning to crossover? And at what acoustic slope?

I'm thinking somewhere around 3khz for the frequency but it will depend on the drivers selected.

The crossovers will be active before the amplification.Probably 24db octave.

Also does anyone know good sources for plate amps? I know that adire has one . But it's only 50w for the hf and mid/low frequencys.Would like more power so I might have to make the electronics out board. I want to use amps that install into the enclosures for a more streamlined space efficient approach.

Banana your project seems to have turned out quite well judging by the response measurements.

The reason that I do not want to use kevlar or a metal based cone is that I've always heard that because of the materials extreme stiffness they tend to have a sharp spike in their response ,usually somewhere in the 4-8khz range and because of it's intensity that a steep crossover slope may not always cure it.

Although I do not notice it in your measurements of your kevlar 8incher. Hmmmnn?

Those measurement were made in an ultra small semi-anehoic chamber, using sweeping sinewave signal. But now I prefer the gated MLS method.

The kelvar cone resonance do appear in my raw woofer measurement. I measured a +8db peak around 3Khz, which is consistent with the published data in scan's webpage.

With a 3kHz crossover, you're going to have hellaciously uneven off-axis response if you adjust the on-axis response to be flat; you'll see a huge dip for the octave below cross, followed by a huge peak just above crossover. Are you sure that you want to use an 8"?

Fostex's JBL LE8TH 'clone', the FX200. Depending on your hearing and amount of off axis response you want, a tweeter may not be required, or at most a supertweeter capped off between 16-24kHz. Even if you don't like any of its HF 'tone', up to a 5kHz XO can safely be chosen due to the diaphragm's excellent TL characteristics.

The trade off for this is high compliance and low Xmax, so if not sealed, then two in a fairly large cab will be required for solid output down to 30Hz. I have some ML-TL designs with different Fbs and all who have built same/similar have been very pleased.

I've decided it might be easier if I went with a crossover around 2khz instead.

Anybody know any hf units with good sound quality and a solid amount of guts this low. Like I said I want to go with active crossover of 24db octave.

I was looking at a HiVi unit the one with mild horn loading.I think it's the RT2-HA.Does anybody have experience with these?
