Default removing compression driver screens?

Hi everyone, I was wondering about removing the protective screen from my screw on compression drivers? They will be used in a controlled environment, and thought that it may tame some high freq. issues i have with my new PA mains. Any thoughts pro/con would be greatly appreciated! I was looking on rongon's post but it was sooo loong , I decided to start another post.

I began removing screens from drivers in home apps in the late '60s with nary a bug/whatever problem, even the ones not mounted behind a grill, though I suppose a rambunctious kid or irate S.O. could shoot/toss some liquid in there. Frankly, if you're going to use screens, it should be a fine mesh one tightly stretched over the horn mouth to provide both a bit of protection and damping, though nowadays, making a horn plug out of a chunk of 30 ppi open cell foam based on Dr. Geddes research has become popular.

I have not seen a "controlled environment" completely free of bugs.
Bugs seem to like to crawl in to small places, lay eggs, and die. The carcasses remain.
On a compression driver with no screen, bugs can get in between the phase plug and the diaphragm, their carcasses will buzz until hammered in to a fine dust.

I leave the screens on all my compression drivers.

Removing the screens has very little effect on frequency response, the drivers may show a dB or so increase at 16K removing the screens.

Coincidence, yesterday I spent the morning removing bugs (and big ones) out of my screenless CD, that's not an urban legend. The dust is indeed everywhere between the phase plug and the dome, and of course inside the gap. Bloody bastards.

Having serviced several hundred compression drivers, the amount of rubbish that gets in even with the screens intact still never fails to amaze me.

interesting reply's so far, you all will have me checking for bed bugs now! But seriously the tweeters are a little harsh in some regions, and i thought removing the screen may smooth them out a little, but any help in the very high frequency's would be a bonus.

Hi, I'm curious how those stuff affect the operation of the drivers?
