Howdy!
Any thoughts on this? Would like to hear from you if you have any experience on this particular issue. Possible strength and weaknesses for the various profiles are absolutely of interest, will have a pair of round horns manufactured after sorting out the different options. |

As allways in engineering, what is the best depends on what you want to achive
Highest spl per box volume will probably be some sort of exponential horn. Want constant directivity - make conical horn. Then there are some more esoteric approaches as well, like Le Cleac'h. In the end, all are pretty similar, so build what simulates well and makes you feel comfortable. And dont compromise too much in the mouth area, this horn has to be pretty big to do well. Use Hornresp. Thats all you should need to decide the design. Last edited by MaVo; 2nd February 2012 at 06:37 PM. Reason: forgot to mention... |

Thanks MaVo, appreciate it. I have been trying out some Le Cleach horns lately, on a selection of some 10 different drivers, and I really like the obvious smoothness of this profile. That being said, I have not tried it below 350 Hz, hence my questions here...
The system planned here will be a four-way all horn system with ALE drivers, with a large dipole bass system covering the bottom octaves. Yes, the horns will be rather large, but not too large, diameter in the neighbourhood of 50-52" or so. |

Forgot to mention it but the bass driver in question will be the ALE model P126

As you might know I'm a novice in the world of horns, but I can't help it strikes me that a 50-50" dia horn working down to 100Hz will be a heavy compromise concidering the drivers you are planning for. As ALE says - the horn for this driver should be designed to the room. I am aware of that they intend to use the bass driver a little lower than you are, but their EX-70 horn (100-500Hz) indicates a little larger horn than the 50-52". Just thoughts...
