Default Looking for MB Quart MCD26 Titan tweeter

Hi -

I just acquired a pair of ProAc Studio 1 monitors (original, not Mark II) from the early 90's. These appear to use the MB Quart MCD26 Titan tweeter, and one of mine is broken. These are long out of production, and short of buying a pair of Quart speakers using the same tweeter just for the single part (a very expensive way to get the tweeter), does anyone have a solution? The tweeters are the same as pictured below.

Thanks, Jim

Hi,

Such is the thing with old and unusual speakers. Substitute the tweeters
and sell the good tweeter as an expensive used part, or be prepared to
buy 2 pairs to get 1 fully working pair and again sell the other parts.

These might fit and take it from there, some modifications may be needed.

Probably don't, probably too small, you need to check out german market
countries for MB quart stuff, or be creative in reusing the faceplate.

rgds, sreten.

MB Quart was bought out by Maxxsonics in the midwest. They have discontinued home audio pieces, so all of the 8 Ohm stock is gone. They do have some NOS 4 Ohm stock. I think I paid something like $75.00 for two 4 Ohm tweeters, with shipping.

I had a similar problem with a set of Hales Signature System II speakers. I bought the NOS tweeters in 4 Ohm and used a non-inductive 4 Ohm resister in series. I am pretty happy with the results, but both of my 8 Ohm tweeters were cooked when I bought them, so I have no way to compare to how they would sound with the proper 8 Ohm drivers.

Let me know if you want to sell your orphan 8 Ohm, I want to do an A/B comparison to see if there is a difference in frequency response as there is no paperwork to reference for a response curve.

Last thought is to see if it is the coil or the wire that leads in. Sometimes the failure is not in on the voice coil, but on the magnet wire that is off the coil leading in from the soldering lugs. It would save time and headache in the long run.
