OK

I bought (during last campaign) MJK's software for usual insane small amount of greenies ; because I'm spending my time mostly on other things , not speakers - I'm sort of familiar only with Ported TL sheets but certainly greenhorn for messing with any other ;

I'm (hopefully) getting tomorrow pair of Tannoy Dorsets , which is basically 2528 (10" coax ) driver with passive 'fragm .

I don't care for these boxes , so I played a little with sim - see enclosed pics.

feel free to comment .......... and feel free to recommend any horn or even to simulate it in MJK sheets :clown: - you'll not hear me complain

thank you verry much for your efforts 😉

it seems you are pretty deeper in MJK sheets than me , there are even some parts totally unknown to me :clown:

anyway - my intention is to try to squeeze some deeper bass than original Dorset cabs have ( by factory spec. somewhere at 45Hz , but I'm not buying that , even without measurement)

I don't have problems with pretty tall , but narrow and not too deep box , regarding space

All I can say is that since I added woofers to my 12" Tannoys they sound a whole lot better.
I'm now using the Tannoys in a sealed cab crossed in at 175Hz and can't see myself going back to using them full range.

Hi Charles,

Thats what I too had in mind: Add an overlapping sub(s) at ~50 60 Hz to the proposed mains in order (IMO) to maximize the heard system performance.

,My Tannoys came out of Little Red Monitors so they only reached 55Hz @-3dB but they can reach 29Hz in a suitable 200L cab.
Turns out I could instead of building such a large cab for them, keep them in 46L cabs and add a couple of 12" Volts in roughly 140L cabs using the same space.

Either way to my ears removing low bass from the Tannoys duties cleaned up the midrange a whole lot whilst retaining the point-source (the drivers are probably 18-20" apart c-c). I might go up to 250Hz but at the moment I'm happy enough not to bother to solder up a couple of frequency cards for my crossovers.

No, I don't intend to turn my lounge into a speaker cab. ;-)

Not sure what I could possibly gain from such an arrangement and I also have my speakers positioned with their backs right up the wall.
If I had the choice I'd soffit-mount them.
As I run mine active it is fairly easy to eq them to give a flat response in room.
Also not sure if OB mounting them would limit cone excursion which, I think, is the main benefit of removing low bass from the Tannoys duties.

But I want at least one box influence: Taking care of the in this case unwanted rear-radiation.

If I could see one point which might outweigh my perceived disadvantages of OBs i'd try it but until then I would probably be too prejudiced to give OBs a fair chance truth be told.;-)

I have the schematic at home, will post it later. Back in the '90s, Tannoy actually sent me a large paper copy of the schematic, Fedex overnight from Scotland to the States -- and for free! Sometime around the year 2000 I made a digital version because I just knew I'd lose that piece of paper someday... and I did.
