Who here as successfully built petal shaped horns? I am still researching wether to build mdf rings and turn them, buy from horns.pl or even build petal horns, with 11 or 13 sides.
Looking at a 200hz tractrix with a 1.4 inch throat and a 120 hz tractrix with a 100mm opening. I am on a mac so no hornresp ![]() I got inspired for the petal design when i saw the lute my father is building and though some bendy ply and a few templates could be a fairly easy horn build. |

I made some about a decade ago with a free program I found online to plot out the segment shapes. I then used some board a friend got from an art shoppe in watermelonville but I forget what it's called. White and smooth, couple of mm thick and bent very nicely.
I'd be wary of a 200Hz trax, as I had a 220Hz unit turned out of mdf and it beamed like a mongrel, to the point I found it unusable. If you're doing a bigger horn for the MB something similar in size to the Edgar 350hz flare, used above 500hz would work better. Check out Volvotreter's site. |
