I need to move my 6 ft speakers from my family and need to go " inwall ", the reason? ...... wife.
My actual speakers are "line array" (AV123 Ls-6) and I really love them but need to go other direction. I was thinking that maybe a 6-7 ft high line array "in-wall" would be a nice substitutes for my AV123. I have a 10ft ceiling so height will be not a problem. I really need some advice in this area, maybe some of you tried this same option. If not exactly "in-wall' maybe an "on-wall" or something similar but cant be seated directly on the floor. If you consider this can be done (and of course I can still have a great filling sound in my family) , please redirect me to projects that are not expensive and can offer what Im looking for. I use an external sub so the inwalls dont need to go too deep. thanks in advance Last edited by jorsan; 21st January 2012 at 11:46 AM. |

I think I'd start by realising that if they needed to be flush, they couldn't be toed in and the side wall could become illuminated. If you could toe them in and fit them in the wall then the front wall would be the concern. I would want to go with something that had a little more horizontal directivity.

Thanks AllenB. Maybe, if the box can be made about 1ft square at most, I can install them against the wall with a pivot or a hinge to redirect the sound (sorry about my english, hope you undertsand the idea). Im open to in-wall, on-wall or over-the-wall but the box need to be as unobstructive as possible. I was considering also that a center channel can be made same way.
the idea is that they must be positioned as close to the back wall as possible and need to have a very small footprint also. something like this: http://www.parts-express.com/project...oject=Kuze3201, maybe not exactly those but this is the idea. On wall will be FAR more problematic than in wall. At leat with I wall, you won't have diffraction ripples from the baffle edges......or the need for baffle step compensation so a more efficient design.
And as to not being able to toe them in, that's a non issue as you could easily and preferably design the system for flat response off axis. That's the beauty of DIY....suit to your room and needs. As for some design predicates.....a WMTMW would be easier to implement and not as costly. Curt C's Stentorian WWMTMWW would be a nice option. |
