I got 2x 1.8uf jantzen supreme caps for my tweeter thinking that I wouldn't be affected by any image smearing because two caps of equal construction should ideally act as one... but I don't know, imaging isn't as sharp as I hoped, and the only comparison I have is auricap 3.6uf which's way too bright for any reasonable comparison.
So what are your gents' experiences on this? are two caps(of mirror construction) as good as one? |

Define "sharpness of imaging."
I think you may be chasing ghosts whilst ignoring the elephant. Has the system been simulated or measured? |

i hope you're not implying that paralleling caps of different value doesn't affect imaging, and that there's an equipment that can measure stereo imaging better than human ears.
if so, i think you're the one confusing between ghosts and elephants. |

Imaging is mainly determined by early reflections in the room (the elephant, so to speak). See for example "Sound Reproduction" by Toole or "Spatial Hearing" by Blauert for more on imaging, image blur etc. |

Two caps of equal capacitance that add up to the original cap's capacitance will be the same, the only difference being if the two replacement caps are the same voltage rating as the original then they will be able to handle more power. Having said that, you won't even come close to reaching the cap's power rating in a tweeter circuit. You obviously have not done any measurements to the caps so you have zero idea what is going on frequency wise. Good luck using just your ears and guess work.

What do you think causes the auracap to sound "bright?"

i was hoping to expand on the phenomenon that was already discussed here previously without needing to revive the dead thread,
here Titannus states that one cap is always better but two caps of equal value, he is not sure. this is the point i was hoping my thread would raise... not argue about which means are necessary to justify the end, nor whether the words mdocod bothers to punctuate should be omitted in technical discussions or not. I admit I have much learning to do but the way i see it, if my ears get the sound I want from guesswork alone i just saved bunch of money on test equipments. I came in peace, so please stop the hounding. |

My intention is to aid in finding and solving the root cause (the elephant) that is contributing to the perceived problems. I do not believe that the "pairing of caps" is the primary consideration. I suspect that something else is afoot. I apologize for the poking and prodding. I'd be interested to know more about the system, perhaps someone here or myself can help identify where there may be problem areas.

![]() the imaging with 2 caps was a bit 'fuzzy' compared to a single one but here's a funny thing which i would love to hear a logical explanation of if it's not placebo- i unbraided the lead-outs to the 2 caps and reconnected and voila, imaging is as good as the single audin cap. that is to say, no smeared transients. |
