What would you match with this Foster tweeter that's on sale at Parts Express?
Foster 025N03 Cast Aluminum Horn Tweeter 3" x 7-1/4" 279-102 I bought a pair and am stumped. Zilla |

I have used them with Gauss and EV 12" back in the 1970s and 1980s.
Almost felt like buying a pair for nostalgia. They would work well above a pair of Eminence Alpha 8" or an Alpha 10. |

How about something like this and an L-pad on the tweeter?
10" Square Frame Paper Cone Woofer White 290-910 I'm trying to avoid the use of a subwoofer. The Eminence drivers above would be great but i'm concerned they won't provided enough bass in bookshelf sized speakers. I do agree the Alpha 8 and 10 were my first logical choices... i may end up with one of them but wanted to explore other drivers that might be less expensive. |

Kinda pricely for the perfoemance -- even thou i did oay more for my new pair. That is evolved from a 1950s Jensen horn, it is OK but not a brilliant performer.

I'm sure they are not the best performing tweeters but they look interesting and i would like to use them for something.
How about something like this? Jensen duette horn speakers 1956 I can use them with the 6" Dayton i have... Dayton Audio PA165-8 6" PA Driver Speaker 295-015 Thanks for your suggestions! Zilla |

Foster builds a smaller tweeter with the same driver that is better -- doesn't go quite as low thou. They look like (these could well be OEM units from Foster) ![]() 3-3/8" Bullet Tweeter 270-055 3-3/8" Bullet Tweeter 270-055 The alnico versions are even better (but less efficient) dave

>>> I have one of those.
Cool! Dave, when you get a chance, if they are not packed away somewhere, could you give me the outside measurements? I see it uses an 8" woofer... i may have a few old 8" drivers floating around (rather than the 6" dayton i mentioned above). |

The driver you list has an upper response of 3.5K, it may have "problems" in that area. Getting a speaker that plays well from 30-40 Hz to around 3.5K usually is pretty expensive. I recommended the Alphas because I use a lot of them, the midrange is good sounding and they are smooth down to the low rolloff, an Alpha 6 would get you down to the 100 Hz range. I'd be inclined to go with a known good sounding mid cone and a cheap sub below the pair. Easy to spend someone else's money .
