Default 16m2 room, $2000 budget

Hello!

My room is about 4x4m big and I sit around 2.5-3m away from the speakers. The speakers will be placed to a wall that is around 2.5m wide, with a corner on the right side and an open door on the left side.

I want to achieve a sound similar to the Transmission Audio M3. I listened to them last week and I really liked the sound. They were powered by a Primare I32 if it matters... I want to be able to play louder than I can at the moment with my Mar-Kel70 speakers and I want good LF response down to maybe 30-35Hz.

I guess a 3-way design is the way to go? But what do you recommend? How "large" speakers can I actually fit in my somewhat tiny room?

Current amplifier is a Harman Kardon HK3490 rated at 2x120W @ 8ohm and 2x150W @ 4ohm. Thinking of building something way better, like similar to the Primare I32...

I would think something like this:

ELLAM-25

would be way less than your budget and would be plenty for a room that size.

I built some 40 liter 2-ways with ScanSpeak 18w-8531-g and d2608-913000 for less than 800USD and they will play very loud and low.

ELLAM-25 probably is enough bass-wise in my room, but will it give me the same dynamics in the midrange and treble as from the Transmission Audio M3? I mean, the M3 has a pretty big ribbon tweeter...

And I want lots of headroom. If I play let's say the song Stimela (The Coal Train) with Hugh Masekela I want to play loud enough that the lower parts are somewhat loud and the loud parts of the song get really loud. I can make the low part sound somewhat high but when the loud parts of the song kicks in I have to turn the volume down to save my EL70 from burning.

But hey, I may be young but I'm actually willing to spend up to $2000 on a pair of speakers to get something good. I don't have much else to spend my money on...

The midrange doesn't come from the tweeter. In fact, very little sound energy comes from the tweeter. Unless the Transmissions are very steeply discounted, you are talking about 6x the price.

Also note the Transmissions are dipoles and as such tend to want to be feet from the back wall. (How far away from the wall were they in your test listen?) I'll bet they sound good and they should be astounding for that price.

No project in mind.
You can fit in in any project. But 1000-20k is a spec that is hard to ignore. Also 99dB.

They are like Pamela Anderson's T**s, 20 years ago. They are HOT!

No, but I was thinking that ribbon tweeter added some extra "pressure" to cymbals, highly tuned guitar strings and such?
The Transmission Audio were 43000SEK normally but discounted to 38000SEK if I remember correctly... The room was about the same size as my room, maybe a little larger. They were placed around 0.5m from the back wall (back end of the speaker) and I sat at around 0.2m from the opposite wall about 2m from the speakers.

What are your experiences with ribbon tweeters with an open back so it acts like a dipole? In that room and with that speakers I really like it, very good soundstage!

Listen to the song "Am I Losing You" with Jan Akkerman. At the end, I want the guitar strings to have some "pressure", that's kind of what I want to achieve... And ofcourse better LF than my Mar-Kel70, play louder...
