Default Celestion SL6 driver set needed...

Subject says it all really - I'm restoring a set of SL6s and have found that all 4 drivers are dead (corrosion or just open circuit).

Speakers aren't worth much, so no big $$$, but I'd like to restore them if possible (emotional attachment - my first decent set of speakers bought with my first pay packet out of university).

Thanks

Default Restoring SL6's at reasonable cost

Hi, I've the same recently, and learnt a bit in the process. To say they aren't worth much might be a mistake! The first pair I restored sold for £175 on e-Bay.

See Carpwrangler online - Home for more details, or my 'carpwrangler' e-bay listing starting tonight for replacement tweeters.

Good Luck, they're worth it.

Hi, you're lucky because existe the place where you find every component for the old speakers: Falcon Acoustics | The Leading DIY Speaker Parts and Kit Supplier since 1972
...I jus bought from Falcon Acoustic LTD new caps for my Celestion SL6. and yes, the sound now is FRESH and simple AMAZING. I love this verry unique sound: natural&neutral, lot of details superb voices>. Now is in excelent condition.
BTW, is important to respect exactly the same values& powers capacitors like the originals from crossover ; And that because the SL6 crossover is sophisticated and not at all tolerant to other capacitors type. only IF you want to keep the ORIGINAL sound... corse if you want a different sound you can make the upgrade with some KKP's, etc., but the sound will be change dramatically. I have this experiences and I don't like them.
With the new ALCAP original now the fresh&natural sound is back!..and this is my option for my ears.
Good Luck!

Carpwrangler, totally off-topic, but I was looking at that impressive music collection on the Brennan.

I feel like I know the owner!

Neutron's "Black Hole Star", "Man" and all that folky and metal stuff. Very 1970s. Very Bedford College, London Welsh wing!

Default Off Topic

Hi System 7,
Thanks, nice to see some of the more obscure stuff from the principality is still recognised, or dare I say listened to outside of my house.
Actually Imperial College, 'Aldermaston wing'.
Just finished a set of SL6S's and starting on an original pair of SL6 but forgot the different speaker mount and the whole cabinet being shorter. Doh.
Anyone interested in the rebuilt SL6S's can contact me via Brennan JB7 for sale - Brennan JB7 500Gb as ever.
