Default Need to match filter with woofer natural slope

Hi everybody !

I'm back to school and want to do a little budget project for vacations.

I found this little driver at Solen (Vifa PL11WG0904) :

Solen Electronique Inc.

It's a deal. What i like is the small enclosure needed and the hight roll-off because i prefer to do crossoverless design.

The only thing i don't know how to is to choose the propre capacitor or design the propre curcuit for match tweeter with natural slope of the woofer.

This is the budget (and small mount) tweeter i choose (Dayton ND16FA-6) :

Solen Electronique Inc.

so 6ohm tweeter with 4ohm woofer. Maybe not the best match but budget and size are the real match :P

Ho and... i'm in Quebec, Canada so USA retailer are too high in shipping (i can local pickup over Solen)

Any genious know the trick i need ? Your help is verry appreciated

Thank you veerrryyy much !

Happy new year ! (tad early hehe)

François

A budget starting point might be to use a 10ohm resistor across the tweeter, then a 3.3ohm resistor in series with it, and a 2.2uF capacitor in series as well. Then try to listen a little off axis.

Hi,

You'll have hard time getting decent sound out of the pair with
no "baffle step compensation" . The tweeter impedance peak
needs attention, tweeter should be c/o > 3.5KHz to avoid
distortion issues, probably second order or greater.

BSC could be done pasively at line level.

rgds, sreten.

Thank you for advice ! You seems to be a great ingeneer for hi end audio Maybe it's better to find more appropriate drivers for crossoverless ?
I'ill need to spend on parts for saving on drivers like change one for four quarter.

The root of the project is small and low cost. I forgot to say my budget is about 100$ taxes, mdf, all parts, and finition included (!)
It meed about 75$ for drivers and xo

I'm the first who like the Zaph work but all the parts needed for crossovers and filters let grow the invoice so fast !

Is that possible to cut the tweeter only with 2nd-like or 3rd-like crossovers ?

Two years ago i listen Rega crossoverless loudspeakers and i like it. But maybe it need more specific electrical and magnet specifications (?).

I have two speaker pair here with tratidionnal 2nd order crossover and i'm satisfied with the sound quality. So for me, the need or more complicated circuit meen bad choice for the rest of the project if i keep in focus the sound quality needed.

Sreten, it would be nice to hear your work. I'm shure it sound "speakerless" !
Now, I'm hurry to end my study and get a job to get a decent budget !

Is that an L pad with capacitor for cut tweter ?

There is a deal on this L-Pad potentiometer (LP15W8) :

Solen Electronique Inc.

i know it meen near 4$ more on budget than some resistor but i can't get wrong with values like another project with Solen designed crossover. Cause sometime spec sheet and reality is different i think...

If i can use this button, how can-i make variable the other resistor in L-Pad circuit ?

The volume control you linked to does the job of both resistors. It is a good alternative.

Thank you !

I put this mini project on stand by because the one that i already work change a bit. I decided to do a more complicated finish for enclosure so it will take more time to do.
