Hi ,
i want you to help me decide on speaker conception based on 220litre (8sq.f) cabinet. I have built it for 12" fullrange ,but i didn't like high's and bass. Cabinet have openable back.It could be used as closed,aperiodic,vented,even-OB. Speaker have very wide and tall (60x120cm) front baffle. The main question is 3way vs 2way IF 2way. With 220litre... i need 15" driver, but it's not 'ideal' as midrange unit even till 1khz crossover? Any other good 10-12" driver suitable? Tweeter could be horn. If 3way-i could use separate 5-20litre cabinet for some midrange and use 15" for bass. But i really don't play loud.I would like my speakers play well on very low volumes.Could Pro drivers do that? Because i heard some don't. I think i could be satisfied with good bookshelf speakers, but i want to try someting new and i dont want to burn out my own constructed beloved cabinet Thank you for understanding. |

What about a 2x15" woofers + 10"mid + Bullet-shape horn tweeter (other) 3-Way. |

What is your price range for total driver cost? A SEOS-12 waveguide + DE250 + Eminence Deltalite 2512 could be a choice worth looking into. Crossed around 900hz or so. |

That's a healthy-sized cabinet. Big enough for low-Q bass that might cover enough octaves to make a good 2-way. But I recommend you sidestep the question and make subs out of them. Then you can change what other boxes you use them with.
I don't know how low you intend to go. How about a pair of scan-speak revelators in each? I didn't do the math...LOL. |

Tune to Fs, EQ as required to get the flattest in-room response: http://www.greatplainsaudio.com/downloads/N604-8A.pdf

With 220L, my first choice would be to install a car subwoofer. 12-15" sealed box. Cheap and good. Use an active crossover to cross to 2-way Bookshelf.

Hi,
220 litres is just under 8 cu ft and massively too big for a typical 12". 2ft wide x 4ft tall implies they are somewhat a tad over 1ft deep. What do you want ? Massively loud PA speakers or dig deep home ones ? rgds, sreten.

Thank you all for the responses...
Good point sreten, the cab is ~ 2ft wide, 4ft tall, 1ft deep. Here is photo. http://imageshack.us/f/860/cabt.png/As i said , it has slots for aperiodic design. For my high Qts 12" fullrange even this cab was little too small... Also,it seems 220litre are way too big for most 12" . Most 15" ,even Altecs needs only 120-160litre. So i dont know why people always say the bigger the better? I don't need loud PA speakers, ideally speakers just should dig deep down and has strong 30hz but not necessarily.Just speaker that plays 40hz and fells comfortable in the cab. Conception is still under the question. I have a lot of space for big horn on top of the cab. Next i have 12". If 3way-i could make own cabinet for any midrange there. Down below is suitable for 15" or two 12" But i really wanted to make good two way.Like suggested 12" eminence deltalite 2125 and B&C DE250 is quite interesting.I don't know how it will sound, but this 12"eminence needs only 120litre 4cu.ft... Budget depends on conception. If 2way with 4drivers-one story,3way with two 15"-another Also.Bi,tri-amp,active or passive.I've done it all.No problem here. Thank you Last edited by daudio25; 10th December 2011 at 08:19 AM. |

The eminence deltalite 2512 @ $137 does work nicely in 220L - Tune it to about 31hz for a very nice response. A 5.5" diameter x 4.8" length vent will do the trick. Remember that tuning at fs is important for wimpy drivers - but when you're at 12" drivers you can throw away a bit of excursion and tune lower.
The Acoustic Elegance TD12S also models very nicely in 220L tuned to 24hz, with usable bass down to about 20hz. A pair of 5.5" diameter x 24.5" length vents will get you your tuning. Compared to the Eminence it can go a good bit louder (at least where they're excursion limited) /deeper (and maybe be a bit more resolving?) but it also costs a good bit more... might not be worth it for your application...
