Default Standalone headphones or floorstanding loudspeakers - you decide!

Found this pic on one of my favorite humor sites, unhappyhipsters.com which features modern architecture, slick photography and especially, snarky captions which are not always far from the truth :

Doesn't matter what it sounds like as long as it looks good.

Add to the list plasma TVs hung high over the fireplace like a work of art, etc.

My wife is always showing me magazine pictures of apartments with nothing but glass and hardwood and a few sticks of furniture. All I can think is: "bad acoustics".

Some Interior Designer type rearranged the furniture for the photo not understanding audio. And those sterile Modernist homes devoid of clutter are also curiously devoid of books or any evidence of a thoughtful life.

I don't agree, maybe it is maybe isn't. The fact is I can see books or vinyls (?)... Yes!

My g/f watches a lot of HGTV so I know that there are people out there that have businesses that do what's called "staging" to help homes get sold. This involves removing anything that will obscure the layout, colors and other aspects of the home itself and almost universally, if an seller has an elaborate audio or A/V system or even a TV that's a just a little too large, it gets moved into the closet. And I think this is what is done by many of the photographers of these modern homes. Btw some of the homes are quite beautiful imo but there's a thin line between clean and attractive.......and as you said, sterile.

FYI: I've posted about this before, but here's a speaker that looks like it was designed by Ray & Charles Eames themselves: Davone Audio "Ray" (a beautiful design but not exactly DIY friendly!)

It's not easy to make compromises in the interests of aesthetics but they seem to have struck an intriguing balance. I'm sorry if I can't see past the coaxial configuration, I can see why they call it the illuminator tweeter.
