Default Should I get them or not?

Hey! It's nice to meet you all! The reason for posting is my dilemma about getting a pair of "broken" speakers someone is giving away for free. It's a pair of painfully good looking Mission 780s. Both of the woofers are not working - which seems to be the norm with these speakers. So, do you think a local repair store would fix them? I guess a coil rewiring will be needed, but on some woofers this might be a mission (sic) impossible... Please advise...

Some repair shops will be able to rebuild your drive units for you.
Results may vary from the original depending on the skills and resources of the repairer.
Other than that you could concider replacing the bass drivers with other units. A company like Wilmslow Audio
Speaker Repair, Speaker Kits, Loudspeaker Repair, Kits and Drive Units, Subwoofer Amplifier Kit
should be able to help you with suggestions for replacements.
It would help if you entered your location into your profile, as this is a global forum and you need local advice!
If the speakers are available for free why not give it a go. Have fun!

Thanx for the reply! I'm from Greece. Unfortunately due to the depression there are more and more repair shops going out of business, so I have to find someone new to fix these. A replacement - if the cost is ok - would be an option I guess. The original woofers look quite nice, but I read everywhere they are crap. They sure break down a lot! I will make sure I make an email to those nice people you mentioned....

I really hoped the people on that site would answer my query about replacement drivers for the 780s, but I got no answer... May anyone propose another place where I can get good advice on potent and compatible drivers to use? Thanx!

Thanx Henry. The cabinet is awesome and the y are unmarked. Better drivers will add a bonus to the package: good sound. The originals must have been horrid...
