Hi,
I own a recording studio and my control room currently has a surround setup made up of soffit mounted Event ASP8 powered monitors. The speakers sound fairly good but the power amps keep failing. I would like to replace the Events with DIY speakers but I could use some help picking the right plan. I’m fine with passive speakers. My listening distance is 8-9’. The room it 20’x18. I don’t want to modify my Soffits too much, so it would be good if I could make a monitor with the same front dimensions as the ASP8 (12.5” x 16’). I’m not sure if altering the dimensions of a cab but keeping the same internal volume is doable. Because they will be soffit mounted I would like front ports. Is it possible to use a design with a rear port and move the port to the front? I am an experienced wood worker and would like to build the best speakers I can for under $500 (each) Sorry for the newbie questions. I would appreciate any help. |

If the woofers and tweeters are not damaged, you can continue using the Event ASP8. Disconnect the woofer power amps, the #3 LM3886, and direct the output of the Woofer Crossover to an external power amp.
