Never use it.
HDA aerogel is a mixture of keyvlar and carbon fibre. It is a high end driver from Audax. This driver is a midrange, usable in a 3 ways. The woofer version was used in 2 ways, in very high end french loudspeaker : L'enceinte LEEDH Psyché 2 - Voir le sujet forum . ![]() My personal taste, i like aerogel in the bass frequency and i like them less in the midrange. I am using 2 x 6" HDA aerogel for sub in my car. |

Ditto here, though I'm sure I will one day.

The HM210Z10 is great mid driver, that should be crossed over 300Hz. If you need a woofer, the HM210CO would be another great driver build by Audax.

I had a similar experiment with polypropylene cone, in a classic box i don't like the sound but in a very good neutral box, weighted with sand, nothing to add

In french :
L'Aérogel est un matériaux exclusif développé par Audax. C'est un composite ultra léger, extrêmement rigide et parfaitement amorti. Il est constitué d'une matrice de gel polymère acrylique enveloppant des fibres de carbone et de kevlar. Sorry for my answer in PM lduarte, i thaught it was paper fiber or its carbon fiber in Aerogel. |

It's not CF.
It's glass-fibers embedded in a NASA/space-polymer gel. Sort of a high-tech poly-fiberglass blend. Later, Wolf

It's actually a Carbon and Kevlar (small)-fiber embedded in an *acrylic* gel. (..moisture is removed from the gel and leaves a very porous paper-like foam in it's place. There is a very thin elastic "skin" on the front of the driver, but not on the back. I've no idea what the exact material of the "skin" is, but it also seems to be different from other Audax aerogel drivers.)
The pro driver diaphragm (6" and 8" driver mentioned here) is a bit different than the other versions, and I'm betting the HM100Z0 is also somewhat different as well (and still not quite like the pro driver versions). I have the 6" pro version - perhaps the best mid I've hear in some (but not all) respects. Extremely detailed with an overall natural sound, yet slightly over-damped. The 8" pro version may not be as over-damped as the 6" - but I'd bet it's every bit as clear. As a comparison: Seas Excel magnesium (every driver I've heard in this line that's magnesium) - clear, but not as clear. NOT natural sounding. Much more over-damped. Poorer rendition of dynamics and the subjective impression of depth is lacking (..when compared to the 6" pro aerogel mid). The 6" pro aerogel driver is clearer than any paper driver I've ever heard (including very efficient mids with paper diaphragms). The 8" pro was used in this design (Optimum): http://www.groundsound.com/hh_p45.php http://www.hobbyhifi.de/Bestellservi...vk_optimum.pdf
