Default Supravox drivers in 2-way

Has someone used Supravox drivers in 2-way speakers? How about their quality in general? 215 GMF or 215-2000 + tweeter TG1 would be nice combo for high efficiency speaker.

I think they are not the cheapest ones.

While I advocate them for some uses, I've never heard them.

The 215 GMF is really only suited for freq.s below 900 Hz, and better still an octave lower. (..it has surround problems a bit above 1 kHz - see Troel's site for more details.) Supravox itself spec.s this with it's horn + B&C compression driver combo for a good "two-way".

The 215-2000 and TG1 are something else entirely, and a lot more expensive.

The bargain in the group is the 165GMF. It still needs support somewhere below 1 kHz (and that's highly dependent on the interaction with the baffle). The 285 would likely work well with a 4th order bessel low-pass to "fill-in" these lower freq.s.. (..perhaps open baffle for the 165GMF and bass reflex with low tuning freq. for the 285 - sort of like a smaller version of Dick Olsher's Basszilla.)

(..I'd look elsewhere for a tweeter if desired - likely ribbon or planar.)

The specs of 215 GMF seems to have changed since Troels wrote his article

..they are the same, Supravox's spec.s are just wrong (..and have always been so as far as I know). Still, it's a phenomenal mid-bass driver - and *can* have excellent bass extension depending of the cabinet volume and the tuning freq..

Hmm specs in Troels article is very different from the ones found on supravox site, this led me to assume they had changed the driver. Why give numbers so far from reality ?
fs difference is almost 20 hz !

looks like their Fs could be measured in a box, and a bit optimistic specced like -12db at 45hz

but not surpricing
very high sensitivity always comes at a cost
and it is after all only 8"

Vas.

Not many will purchase an 8" driver designed with bass-reflex (onken-style) design with a 120 liter Vas.

Despite the higher fs however, it still models nicely in a bass reflex.

Of course it should be updated on the website.
