Hello,
I recently cleared out my storage, and found these speakers I'd forgotten about. I remember now I put them in storage 10+ years ago due to their bulkiness and I was living in an apartment. Anyways, I was just curious about getting rid of them, I checked them over and they still are in great condition aside from what I expected with age, as I used them roughly a year and since then they spent a decade in storage. The foam surrounds for the woofers are deteriorating so they would have to be refoamed, and one of the tweeters is torn (i think they are the fastglass 1'' they used for them, but I forget) I would like to repair the surrounds (midrange too as may as well do them all in one shot) and tweeter if possible, the first is easy enough but I have no clue if its feasible to find a replacement tweeter for the speaker (I'm guessing it was bumped during move) Any idea if this is even worth looking into, I have no idea about their value today if i were to sell them (which I would rather, no use for them) My problem is, if the time and parts invested to repair them would be more than the speakers are worth today. Any ideas on what to do and what these speakers would be worth today if sold when repaired (they are otherwise in perfect shape with no cosmetic damage at all) I have NO idea what I paid for them originally anyways so I don't expect much return on them but if I could profit enough to make repairing them worthwhile then I'm all for it to sell them, otherwise I will leave them as is and offer them in local classifieds as free. Thanks. Last edited by Sinomi; 3rd November 2011 at 06:25 AM. |

What did you decide to do with them?

Sorry to say, but these are by far the worst speakers Infinity have ever made. They were cheaper than Cerwin Vega, and tried to compete with them, but they are far from the Cerwin Vega quality. IMHO they are not worth to use time and money. You can find decent used Cerwin Vega's that will outperform there Infinity speaker in both sound quality and craftmanship.

I would say save them, But the tweeters are impossible to find. To the above post you know that the 2xx SM speakers have nothing in common with the 1xx SM speakers. The 2xx use audax drivers, aluminum baskets, and sounds a LOT better. I would not write them off yet, They retailed new around $800 each. They should sale for 150 each no problem in working shape.
I have 4 of them that i just re foamed and they sound great, very detailed sound, but they are driven by a Adcom 5500 amp paired with a velodyne uld 18 sub. If you decide to trash them i would love to buy the good tweeter for a spare, |

I used to sell these several years back, and these speaker and the reference series I consider really bad. There are much better alternatives in the same price range.

Why do you consider them bad? What did you not like about them?
