Smile How low in distortion is Isobaric...

An Isobaric construction for bass and low mids 31hz -300hz using 6 and half woofers or eighths in vented. I don't see this done alot which tells me something... what is wrong with this method as I want to get the cabinet smaller without resorting to a seperate sub if possible.

well actualy the proper way to do it is back-to-back, and the reduction in volume will be roughly only by one quarter for the total box dimension.

I prefer isobaric, removes a lot of non linear distorsion, and allso blocks the noises that form on the basket, and the vent on the pole piece of the magnet.

If you are going for a sub, i would not realy advise 6.5 inch drivers. I would look for something bigger. Probably least 10", and 12" and upward is my preference.

I don't think there's anything wrong with 6.5" subwoofers, just that you shouldn't expect much SPL out of them. That's fine for really close listening in a small room or cubicle, like at the computer. Obviously, they aren't home theater material!

John K has written this up on his site, the distortion reduction isn't as much as you might hope for....

Well box size is what I am looking for.. as in reduction of. I agree though that I am asking too much of 6 and half drivers. I think I will go eight. I am doing a little form over function thing. A sub is not necessary for good symphonic music playback. But I am not trying for a full sub effect but again more on the 32-35hz range without having a chest high tower.

And further, 2nd order distortion is reduced, 3rd should increase, quite possibly causing 2nd to be lower than 3rd which is not such a good thing.
