Default Lynn Olsen Ariels

Hi Folks

As I've posted this on the Wam, I thought I'd share my humble efforts here as well, mainly as a thanks to Lynn and others who helped.

I promised Steve(Bourney) I'd put some pics up once I'd finished off the project.

So here they are.

Bought these off Steve with the idea of finishing them off by making a few alterations.

An overview of what I did

Removed all the drivers and the aluminium crossover case which was mounted on the back.
Removed the base, it kept the speaker stable but the foot print was too large, removed all the internal wiring.

Rewired using Missing link solid core silver, reseated the drivers and sealed, built a new base out of solid oak, with a separate enclosure for xovers, also replaced the top in solid oak.

Changed the xovers to biwire and ran the wires from the drivers to the xover box and used missing link silver wire from pcb's to binding posts. Xovers mounted on sorbothane pads.

Mounted the speakers on soundcare superspikes, (ordinary spikes didn't work well re sound reproduction).

Had them professionally veneered in oak with a mat finish.

So how do they sound? very good re mid and highs, bass is tight and well defined, but not massively deep, which I guess is to be expected.

Others have said after hearing them that I should be well pleased and to a point I am, can't help but think I could improve them further.

Anyway my first effort and I enjoyed it, well apart from the screw up with the tweeters being incorrectly wired to the xover
