Hey all,
I'm building a 2-way using the following drivers in a 0.65885cu ft box. Tweeter Vifa XT25TG30-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter Woofer Dayton Audio RS225-4 8" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm What would you recommend for a crossover point? Thanks! |

With my limited knowledge I would say around 2000Hz. The woofer seem to be hard to go more than that, maybe even 2kHz is too high, but I would start with that and listen. The tweeter according to data seem to go rather low but I think I have read somewhere it should not be crossed lower than 2000Hz and sounds best above 2500Hz.

Personally I wouldn't try and match those two drivers. I'm not sure how low the vifa can be crossed, but I'd be saying a 1.5Khz crossover point looks about the highest that you could go with the dayton. You are going to need some serious attenuation on the breakup as well!
If this is your first design I'd highly recommend choosing a different woofer!! Tony. |

Look at the off-axis response of the woofer for the maximum frequency at which this is "acceptable" (about 2kHz?) Crossover is best somewhere between the two. Frank |

Thanks for the responses. The Vifa can be crossed pretty low, to my ears anyway. I kinda came up with 1.5k cross as well. This isn't my first build. I just wanted to show the charts to others to get some opinions. I already have the drivers so I figured I'd give it shot. The Vifa is a very nice tweeter for the price.
Thanks! |

Well, I didnt like the Vifa. Even tho with no crossover, it produces more info than any other tweeter I own, It just didnt sound as good as I wanted it to. So I replaced it with an Event tweeter I had lying around and man it's night and day. Crossover is at 1.5k.

About the XT25 Zaph wrote:
"Smoothest and most extended response curve in the group, and resulting CSD is excellent. Good tall order HD above 2kHx, but average 2nd order HD. Poor HD levels of all types below 2kHz, even considering the extended low end. It may have a 500 Hz Fs, but don't think about crossing it below 2kHz LR4 or 2.5kHz LR2." If you run a tweeter without crossover, you'll risk a damage and hear a lot of distortion. Good sounding speakers are made from drivers AND crossover. Ralf |
